Light Show at Les Baux
We are now in Nice (Wednesday afternoon) and have internet at the hotel that seems to work (one of the few things I like better at hotels than on boats/ships). What I don't like is having to stand in line for 20 minutes to check in only to learn that your room is not yet ready. Two hours later it is ready. However, I guess you could say the view was worth the wait.
The hotel Le Meridien is located right on the promenade along the beach and across the street from the park. We got up and put our bags out at 7:30 then went to the dining room where I had eggs Benedict one final time from Mihai our favorite waiter. At 8:30 we left on our coach for the four hour drive from Avignon to Nice. Anna and John were not so fortunate. They had to have their bags out at 2:30 am and left for the airport at 3:30 am. Via text messages we learned that their flight was delayed due to weather leaving them only 30 minutes or so to make their connection in Amsterdam. They said they sprinted the entire way to make it to their gate just as the doors were being closed. We pray we do not replicate their experience with our early morning department on Saturday.
Yesterday afternoon we took an amazing trip to Les Baux, a village built on the top of a rock formation (similar to Mount Saint Michel in northern France we saw last year, and Monserreat out of Barcelona that we saw in 2011).

But the amazing part of this excursion was our stop to see the 3-D art experience in the Roman quarries in the side of the hill. One of the quarries has been turned into an exhibit of electronic art. Think of a cave with 50 foot high ceilings being filled by the projection from 50+ IMAX projectors accompanied by classical and contemporary music all orchestrated. You don't know where to turn to see the art. There is no way you can capture it in pictures, you must experience it in person.
Tomorrow we have are having dinner in Monte Carlo, and Friday we are taking a tour of the towns to the west along the coast. Tonight we will soon be in search of a grocery to find a baguette, some Brie, and a bottle of wine to call dinner. Can't wait to come home and make up some beef bourguignon, some coq au vin, and some ratatouille for my friends. Bon appetite.
